Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Defence Minister of India, attending the VII Moscow Conference on International Security from 3rd – 5th April, 2018, delivered an address at the II Plenary Session of the Conference on the theme “Global Security in a Polycentric World” covering aspects relating to current global defence, security and strategic scenario.
The Indian Defence Minister stated that for India, cooperation with Russia is vital in ensuring stability and security in our shared Eurasian neighbourhood, especially in addressing the menace of terrorism. She also spoke about terrorism in the region, persistence of instability in Afghanistan, rising threats to security in the wider Asia Pacific region, non-traditional security challenges such as climate change, food and energy insecurity, financial instability and the need for cooperation amongst the countries to address these issues.
On the sidelines of the Conference, Smt. Sitharaman met Defence Minister of Vietnam General Ngo Xuan Lich and later with Defence Minister of Serbia Mr. Aleksandar Vulin. In both the meetings, issues of bilateral importance for further strengthening of bilateral relations were discussed.
Smt. Sitharaman met Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Mr.Dmitry Rogozin. Both leaders discussed the ongoing and future military technical cooperation between India and Russia. She invited Deputy Prime Minister Mr.Dmitry Rogozin to India and he has accepted the invitation to visit later this year.
