Inauguration of Statue of Swami Vivekananda


A statue of Swami Vivekananda, made by distinguished Sculptor, Mr. Gregory Pototsky, was inaugurated at the Moscow University of Finance and Law on May 20, 2016.

The statue was jointly inaugurated by H.E. Pankaj Saran, Ambassador of the Republic of India to the Russian Federation; Mr. Alexey Grigorievitch Zabelin, Rector of the University and Mr. Gregory Pototsky, Sculptor and President of Academy of Kindness.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Pankaj Saran highlighted the role of Swami Vivekananda as a bride between cultures of East and West. Swami Vivekananda travelled extensively all over the world and attended the Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893. He was a great intellectual and distinguished philosopher who established Ramakrishna Mission for undertaking social services including spreading awareness and education.

Ambassador Pankaj Saran appreciated the fine piece of art made by Mr. Gregory Pototsky. Rector Alexey Zabelin also expressed his happiness in hosting the statue in the University campus and remarked it as an icon of interest for Russian students to know about India.

The event was attended by artists, academicians, students and members of Indian community. This is the first statue of Swami Vivekananda to be installed in Moscow. It is a bronze statue which is 190 cm tall.
