Strengthening cooperation with St Petersburg region


H.E. Mr. Pankaj Saran, Ambassador of India to Russian Federation paid an official visit to St. Petersburg on May 6 2016. He met Prof. N.M.Kropachev, Rector of the St. Petersburg State University and discussed the status of collaboration in the field of Indian Philology, History, Philosophy and Culture. The Rector briefed Ambassador about Indian languages being taught at the University and requested for assistance in establishing collaboration with Indian Universities, and for deputing Indian professors for drawing up the curriculum and in conducting the examinations at Department of Indian Philology. He also requested the Ambassador to become a visiting Professor and Ambassador accepted the offer. Ambassador offered to depute a Hindi teacher to the University for a period of two years.

‘India Information Portal’ was also formally launched during the visit of Ambassador to the University. The Information Portal has been launched by the financial assistance of Embassy of India, Moscow and Consulate General of India, St. Petersburg. At present, the Russian version has been launched.

Ambassador also visited the facility of ‘Power Machines’ in St. Petersburg where he was received by Mr. Roman Filippov, Director General. Later, Mr. Filippov informed that the Kudan Kulam Nuclear Power Station: Units 1 & 2 were completed and running and for Units 3 & 4 contracts are being signed. The Barh Thermal PS experienced some delays because of problems with the sub-contractor Technopromexport with whom the contract has been dissolved. The issue has been resolved after agreement with new sub-contractor(Korean Tusan Co) .He also informed that the Sipath Thermal PS: Unit 3 has passed guaranty tests, will be put into operation in the 3rd quarter 2016.The Ambassador suggested that the Power Machines participate in the INOPROM Fair in Ekaterinburg in July this year.
