Indian Council of World Affairs, ICWA


One of the premier think tanks of India which is one of the organizers & participant of the first ever Heads of India-Russia Think-Tanks’ summit hosted by Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) on September 22-23, 2016 in Moscow.

The Indian Council of World Affairs was established in 1943 by a group of Indian intellectuals as a think tank. The Vice President of India is the ex-officio President of ICWA.

It is devoted exclusively for the study of international relations and foreign affairs. Historic international conferences like 'Asian Relations Conference' in 1947 and 'United Nations and the New World Order' in 1994 have been held by ICWA.

Shri Nalin Surie, Director General, ICWA

The delegation from ICWA would be headed by Sri Nalin Surie. He trained as an economist and completed his Masters from the Delhi School of Economics in 1972. He joined the Indian Foreign Service in July 1973. He has served in Indian missions in Hong Kong, Brussels, Dar-es- Salaam,Thimphu, New York, as Ambassador in both Warsaw and Beijing and High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

Nalin Surie is a seasoned diplomat who has extensive cross- sectoral experience on issues ranging across India's northern neighbourhood, China, Eastern Europe, The European Union, Africa, Latin America, Canada, IBSA and the UN. During his career he also focused on India’s external economic relations and the international economy. Since his retirement he functioned as an independent analyst on foreign affairs, security issues and international economic relations.
