The 155th Birth Anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore was celebrated on May 7, 2016 at the Park Druzhby, Moscow.
2. Shri G. Balasubramanian, Deputy Chief of Mission addressed the gathering and spoke about the Tagore’s life and literary works which have found appreciation and acceptance by the Russian people. Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore was a multi-talented world renowned personality who visited former Soviet Union and expressed his affection towards the country in his famous book titled Russiar Chithi (Letters from Russia). The ideals and philosophy of Rabindranath Tagore are also shared by the young generation in Russia.
3. Eminent Indologist, Dr. Sergey Serebriany, Head of Institute for Humanitarian Studies of the Russian State Humanitarian University, Moscow and Mr. Yogender Nagpal, former President of Hindustani Samaj also spoke on the occasion.
4. Students from Fire Rescue College No. 57 of Moscow, members of Shri Chinmoy Mission, Embassy’s Librarian, Mr. Biswarup Sanyal and his Russian students recited poems and presented music performances on Rabindra Sangeet. An audience of over 150 people attended the event which comprised of members of Indian community and Russian ‘Friends of India’.
5. The Statue of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, made by Shri Gautam Pal, was installed in Park Druzhby Moscow in 1991.
