Indian authorities are ready to lift the ban on the export to Russia of the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine, which is used for the treatment of patients infected with COVID-19. This was stated by the Indian Ambassador to Moscow Mr. Bala Venkatesh Varma.
He noted that India has its own needs for this medicine, but it is ready to support the Russian Federation, since this is a humanitarian issue.
“The Russian side has addressed us with a corresponding request, we expect a positive response,” TASS quotes the diplomat.
Some time ago, Indian authorities banned the export of hydroxychloroquine, paracetamol, and a number of other medicines amid the outbreak of coronavirus. New Delhi later announced that shipments would be resumed to countries that have been hit hard by the infection.
To date, 13.5 thousand cases of coronavirus infection have been recorded in Russia. The number of recovered patients is 1045 people, 106 died.
In the world there are 1.7 million infected. About 103 thousand people died, more than 378 thousand recovered.
As NEWS.ru previously reported, domestic doctors evaluated the effect of the anti-parasite drug Ivermectin, which can suppress the spread of coronavirus. According to them, the effectiveness of the drug has been tested so far only on mice. It is still unknown how it behaves in human body.
