India is ready to allow the export to Russia of the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine used in the fight against COVID-19. The Ambassador of the Republic in Moscow Bala Venkatesh Varma announced this on April 11.
According to the diplomat, India, as the country that produces hydroxychloroquine, also has its own needs for the medicine, but Delhi stated that this is a humanitarian issue and expressed its readiness to “support its close friends”.
“Russia has an interest in it, and the Indian Government has guaranteed that we will do everything possible in the current conditions in the spirit of friendship between our countries. The Russian side has addressed us with a corresponding request, and we expect a positive response,” TASS quotes the Ambassador.
According to the temporary eligibility guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health of Russia, hydroxychloroquine is included in the list of drugs used for the treatment of adult patients with coronavirus infection. Amid the outbreak, Delhi has banned the supply of paracetamol, hydroxychloroquine and other medicines abroad.
According to the «Стопкоронавирус.рф» website, 8,063 people were infected with coronavirus in India. 249 people died, 774 recovered. In Russia, according to the same portal, 13,612 were infected, 107 died, 1,050 recovered.
