Year-long celebrations launched on 17 April 2017 to observe the 70th Anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Russia


On 13 April 1947, India and Russia established diplomatic relations. The year 2017 marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Year-long celebrations were launched on 17 April 2017 to observe the 70th Anniversary at Dom Muziki, Moscow with a Cultural Performance on Sitar by Ustad Shujaat Khan.

The function was inaugurated by Mr. Mikhail Shvydkoy, Special Representative of Russian President on International Cultural Cooperation and Mr. Pankaj Saran, Ambassador of India to the Russian Federation. In his remarks, Ambassador Pankaj Saran said, “Over the last 70 years relations between India and Russia have steadily grown and become stronger in every area. Today our two countries enjoy a Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership that covers almost all sectors. For India, building a strong and vibrant partnership with Russia is among the highest priorities of our foreign policy. On the occasion of the 70th anniversary our leaders have exchanged goodwill messages. We have drawn up detailed plans to celebrate this important milestone all across the territory of India and Russia. This includes cultural events, film shows, seminars, exhibitions, interactions between universities, media exchanges and many more.” The event was preceded with a Reception.

3. A large number of distinguished Russian invitees from the Government, Duma, and all walks of life, Ambassadors of various countries to the Russian Federation and Indian residents attended the event.

4. As part of the celebrations, Ustad Shujaat Khan would also be performing on 19th April 2017 at the Koleizey Hall in St. Petersburg.
