Celebration of 2nd International Day of Yoga in Russian Federation


Encouraged with the support and enthusiastic participation of Russian yoga enthusiasts for the first International Yoga Day (IDY), on 21 June 2015, the Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Centre is organizing the second IDY events at a grander scale across Russia. In Moscow, the main flagship event will be held at Pushkin Embankment in Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure at 1000 hrs on Sunday, June 19, 2016. Similar events would be organised in other regions of Russian Federation with support from regional government and Yoga organisations.

2.The events would include a Yoga demonstration (asanas) based on the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) [ link ]. An instructional video demonstrating the asanas given in CYP has been specially made for IDY [ https://yadi.sk/i/fDKwgCufriVZ4]. All events are open to all members of the public free-of-charge. 3. IDY events envisage organisation of a free Yoga session with an aim to highlight the importance of healthy living through Yoga, an ancient Indian tradition, which embodies unity of mind and body and provides a holistic approach to health and well-being.

4. The United Nations adopted a Resolution in December 2014, initiated by India and co-sponsored by the Russian Federation, to annually observe June 21 as International Day of Yoga. The Resolution was co-sponsored by 177 countries and supported by all countries. Yoga has gained popularity throughout the world and particularly in Russia as a natural solution for holistic health, physical and mental wellbeing.
