Celebration of 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar


The 125 Birth Anniversary of Dr. B.R Ambedkar was celebrated at D.P. Dhar Hall, Embassy of India on April 29, 2016. Various educational and cultural events were organized to mark the birth anniversary.

In his address, Ambassador Pankaj Saran impressed upon the wisdom and vision of Dr. Ambedkar for his substantial contribution in drafting of the Indian Constitution. Dr. Ambedkar is popularly known as ‘Father of Indian Constitution’. In addition, he was a social crusader who stood against prevailing evils of caste system and helped in uplifting the marginalized sections of the society. Dr. Ambedkar had been decorated with Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in India, for his outstanding contributions to the nation. He was a legal luminary of rare distinction.

An eminent Russian Indologist, Prof. Alexandra Safronova, Professor, Doctor of History, Chair of History of South Asia, IAAS, MSU, spoke about the life and works of Dr. Ambedkar. She rightly declared Dr. Ambedkar as one of the founding fathers of modern India. Prof. Safronova has written numerous articles which have been published in national and international journals.

To mark the occasion, the Embassy had organized an essay competition for the Russian students from prominent universities/institutes like RSUH, MGIMO, MSU, PFUR, Higher School of Economics, etc. on the subject "Art of Framing the Constitution and its Importance" in which Russian students enthusiastically participated. In addition, students of Embassy of India School participated in various competitions – essay, debate, painting and extempore – with themes on Indian Constitution and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

Ambassador Pankaj Saran felicitated the winners of various competitions on the occasion and boosted their morale to continue their work in this direction.

A play from the debate of Constituent Assembly was beautifully enacted by Hindi students of JNCC which was highly appreciated by the audience of over 100 persons.
