The Ambassador of India to the Russian Federation, Shri Pankaj Saran, visited Astrakhan region from September 27-28, 2016. He was accompanied by the Embassy officials and representatives from the Indian business Community in Moscow. The delegation was warmly received by the regional authorities and businesses. At the meeting with H.E. Mr. Alexander Zhilkin, Governor of the Astrakhan Region, the two sides discussed long-standing friendship between India and Astrakhan with enormous potential for trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation. Development of the “International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC)” and related projects in the logistics sector were identified as key projects for cooperation which were welcomed & supported by the Astrakhan government. Furthering the cooperation, Ambassador welcomed Governor’s support for creating the post of Honorary Consul General of India in Astrakhan.
An extended meeting was organized with Regional Ministry of Industry, Transport and Natural Resources for detailed discussions on INSTC & logistics. It was also attended by the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Astrakhan Ali Mohammadi, the representatives of the Astrakhan customs and logistics companies, specialists and experts from the transport sector. In order to explore the practical possibilities of transshipment, Regional Industry Ministry also organized a visit to Public Joint Stock Company "Astrakhan port," where capacity of the port terminal was demonstrated.
Ambassador visited the Astrakhan State University where he spoke to the students & answered their queries with a lecture on the India-Russia partnership & the possible areas of cooperation with Astrakhan. A press conference with media representatives of the Astrakhan region was also held in the university.
The delegation met representatives of yoga centre "Yogavita" and discussed prospects for development of yoga culture in the Astrakhan region & joint events. During the two day visit, Ambassador also visited the Astrakhan Kremlin & Tetushin Home. The reception hosted by Ambassador was attended by distinguished personalities of Astrakhan, including government, academicians, businesspersons & diplomats. A group from PADMA cultural centre of Astrakhan performed traditional and Bollywood dances at the reception.
