EXERCISE INDRA: 22 SEP TO 02 OCT 2016 INDIAN TROOPS ARRIVE IN RUSSIA


1. Over 250 Indian Troops from Infantry Brigade arrived in Vladivostok over the weekend to take part in Joint Indian - Russian Exercise INDRA- 2016 scheduled to commence with effect from 22 Sep 2016 till 02 Oct 2016. On arrival, the troops were received by the staff from Eastern Military District of the Russian Federation and were accorded a warm traditional welcome at the Ussariysk Ranges in the Primorye region.

2. Over next two weeks, the exercises are expected to move from the first ‘Combat Conditioning and Tactical Training’ phase to the active ‘Validation’ phase by the end. To achieve interoperability in joint operations, the troops from an Indian Battallion and Russian Motorised Brigade would initially acquaint themselves with each other’s approach to such operations, command and control systems as well as arms and equipment. During the exercise, participants will engage in a variety of missions including Joint Planning, Cordon and Search Operations, Search and Rescue, Joint Tactical Drills and Special Arms Skills. The final phase of the exercise is likely to be witnessed by senior Indian and Russian Generals. Apart from partaking in the military manoeuvres, the troops from Russia and India will, during the course of joint training, showcase the rich cultural and traditional arts which will foster better understanding and camaraderie.
