On coming Sunday, June 21, 60 regions of Russia are going to celebrate World Yoga Day.

Earlier Yoga day used to be celebrated in the month of September in Russia. It is for the first time that the yoga day is going to be celebrated on such a large scale in Russia- says Indian Ambassador to Russia P.S. Raghavan.

The UN decided to establish World Yoga Day and Russia very warmly welcomed that decision. Governing bodies of all the regions of the Russian Federation have informed us that many yoga enthusiasts groups plan to hold Yoga day festivals in their areas and will introduce those interested in Yoga with the basics of this essential part of the Indian culture. We are pleased that with the expansion of comprehensive relations between our two countries, the popularity of yoga in Russia is increasing from year to year.

Centre for the celebration of World Yoga Day in Russia will be Park Sokolniki in Moscow. Yoga Federation of Russia, together with the Indian side, is actively working for this celebration. Sergei Repin, President of the Yoga Federation of Russia, is an orientalist and a graduate of Moscow State Institute of International Relations. He says that today it is a very difficult task to tell approximately how many yoga studios and yoga centres are there in Russia. In Moscow alone, there are hundreds and hundreds of these centres. In these centres, classes are conducted by qualified Indian experts and their Russian colleagues having specialized training from India. In our country people of all ages are interested in yoga says on. He further says Yoga was never banned in our country earlier also, but in new Russia it has become much easier to get information about it and know it well.
